Stacie Stoller's ECOMP 5106 Portfolio
I am currently in my fourteenth year of teaching and I still love it everyday. I teach small group Math, small group Science and a general education Reading in the Math content class. The students in my small group class have been diagnosed with a disability such as Learning Disability, Emotional Behavior Disorder, Autism, Fragile X, and Other Health Impaired. Most of my students who qualify for my program under Other Health Impaired have been labeled with Attention Deficit Disorder. Being a special educator means that I am also a case manager. My repsonsibilities as case manager require me to develop IEPs and ensure that they are being followed. I am the liason between student, teacher and parent. This responisibility has afforded me many trials as well as many blessings.
I decided to enroll in Lesley's Masters in Technology program when I realized that my students have a real interest in technology. Many of my students who struggle to stay on task and complete work blossom when given an assignment which requires the use of technology. These students have grown up with computers, video games, DVDs and Ipods. They know and love technology. I realized that if I wanted to be an affective teacher, I needed to jump on the technology band wagon to tap into my students interest and strength. My hope is that not only will I be able to implement many of these ideas into my classroom but that I can be an example/inspiration to other teachers.
